Ú.S.A.me Today



Juan-Sí

Desde que me mudé en el 2001 al estado de Ohio, el llamado He-art-land de los Estados Unidos, he sido testigo de una agresiva campaña de publicidad, mixtura de patriotismo y religión servida en un mismo plato. Recordándome de alguna manera, aquella burda y chovinista propaganda política con la que tuve que crecer en Cuba. El repetitivo uso de imágenes combinadas con vacuas consignas, para incrementar el orgullo nacional y despertar falsos sentimientos de unidad y odio contra un enemigo exterior, me son todavía muy familiares. Debido a la reacción y sorpresa que sentí al ver esas imágenes en mi realidad doméstica, tomé la decisión de ir documentándolas, con la intención posterior de exponerlas y subvertirlas extrayéndolas de su contexto. Para ello utilicé una pequeña cámara decorada con la bandera americana, comprada en K-Mart por solo $10, en ese entonces publicitada en el mercado como una Patriotic View Camera. Estas fotografías son testimonios gráficos que evidencian como nuestro espacio público (nuestro mental landscape), se ha convertido en terreno fértil para un indiscriminado, inescrupuloso y barato mercadeo -donde incluso Jesucristo es un producto más a la venta. A la vez que la llamada frontera entre publicidad y propaganda se borra, el discurso político actual aumenta su retórica de campaña inflamatoria que combina -kneejerk- patriotismo con -self-righteous brand of- cristianismo. Estamos tan acostumbrados a lo habitual que este bombardeo de fe con patriotismo y guerra pasan inadvertidos, pareciéndonos normales e incluso necesarios.

Muy buen post Juan-Sí y Tumiami, para celebrar este día como se debe: reflexionando sobre el futuro de esta gran nación. No hay nada más patriótico y más americano que DISENTIR. Pero claro, nosotros somos cubanos...

el chip implantado a Juan-Si en sus dias de pionero y hombre nuevo contestatario solo le permiten trazar paralelos entre el fascismo socialista y la libre expresion en un estado de derecho, la difernecia es que aqui solo tiene que dedicarse a sus trabjso artisiticos y epatantes, y nadie del CDR le va a solicitar que acuda a votar por los delegados de siempre de todos modos siempre tiene la opcion de inscribirse como democrata, republicano, independiente o tonto util.

Juan-Sí, brother, esos ojos están cada vez más en talla. Como ves, al paso del tiempo nos percatamos que el ejercicio del poder está viciado en todas partes y que la llamada libertad puede ser por momentos una coartada de colores. Y esa farsa la llegamos a rozar pero vivimos disimulándonos la impunidad de la estafa.

Voy con aquello de que con El Poder no se discute, sólo se le pone en evidencia.
El Poder del cual hablamos es aquel que se manifiesta en todo orden, dirección y sentido social y cuya índole despiadada se remonta a la propia naturaleza. No dejamos de ser tan piedra y rayo, tan fiera y liebre como la discutida Alma quisiera.
La obra de Juan-Si ayuda a descorrer el velo. Búsquense a otro si prefieren otra suerte de desgarramiento. Lean y déjenlo obrar en la patria que es el arte.

La habilidad de poder criticar esrte pais libre, y mas todavia un dia como hoy, nos sirve como ejemplo su grandeza como una nacion que respeta esas propias libertades. La critica responsable es una manera de poder crecer. mientras que sea respetuosa y valida.

JELL-O EASY PATRIOTIC PIE

Because it’s a Yankee Doodle Dandy of a pie.
Because it takes only 20 minutes to create a few fireworks for your table.

Recipe:

1 pkg. (4-serving size) each of JELL_O Brand Berry Blue
Flavor Gelatin and Strawberry Flavor Gelatin
1-1/2 cups boiling water
1 cup ice cubes
1 Honey Maid Gram. Pie Crust (6oz.)
1 cup thawed Cool Whip Whipped Topping

Disolve blue gelatin in ¾ cup boiling water in médium bol. Add ½ cup ice cubes to bowl; stir until ice is melted. Pour into bottom of pie crust; refrigerate 5-10 minutes or until gelatin is det but not firm.
Immediately prepare red gelatin with ¾ cup boiling water and ½ cup ice cubes; let stand on counter 5 minutes until slightly thickened. Top blue gelatin with Cool Whip. Spoon red gelatin over Cool Whip.
Refrigerate 2 hours or until set. Garnish with seasonal berries if desired. Makes 8 servings.

Juan Si,quien promueve esta campaña mixtura de publicidad,patriotismo y religion de la cual has sido testigo?
La diferencia con Cuba radica en que alla,solo "ellos" pueden usar los muros,las guaguas,los pulovers y los carteles para promover su ideologia.
No habras traido cierta paranoia desde Cuba?

La democracia más refinada es aquella donde se han sofisticado tanto los mecanismos de dominación que el individuo no advierte su reificación y se conforma con el derecho de gesticular sin importancia alguna para el curso de sí mismo y de la sociedad.
El patriotismo sigue siendo un invento de entidades que no dan el rostro para controlar a los patriotas. Más patriotas, más control, más profit para aquellos pocos.

Aquí hay mucha gente que aún sigue teniendo problemas con "la crítica". ¿Me quieren decir por qué se le teme a la opinión desfavorable en este país?.¿Por qué se atan de manos y pies con el silencio cuando algo no es de la apentencia de uno?. Algo que amo de EE.UU del cual soy ciudadano era una expresiòn que aprendí en mi primer trabajo de lavaplatos que siempre me gustò: Haz la diferencia!.
Viva el 4 de Julio por su símbolo, su gente y porque en un día como hoy alguien pueda haber sacado un blog como el de Juan-Si(Felicidades) denunciando o algo tan patético como la relación entre fe-patriotismo-propaganda, como la portada del Herald... A mí me gusta la América contradictoria...simplemente porque es más real.

El papel de la propaganda y la publicidad es ejercer una influencia sobre los individuos y grupos a los que se dirigen: por ejemplo, en materia de propaganda, conseguir que se vote por un candidato, lograr adhesión a un partido, despertar ardor para la reacción y el combate.
En publicidad, hacer comprar un producto, obtener una suscripción, etcétera, etcétera

Sabemos que vivimos rodeados de mensajes publicitarios y politicos desde que nos levantamos hasta que nos acostamos,los vemos en todas partes,estamos concientes de eso desde que arribamos a estas costas.
La "invitacion" para entrar al ARMY es un comercial como el de Coca Cola.
Que debemos hacer? Una revolucion?
Ademas,brothers,aqui entre nosotros,prefiero ver la bandera yuma todo el dia en el costado de una guagua y no la cara de Alexis Valdez paseando a toda hora por todo Miami,afea el ornato publico.

The greatness about a free country is that you can always express your sentiments and intellectual analysis without the fear of persecution (although all societies and governing systems have limitations, regardless how noble they may be perceived in historical time). I comprehend your criticism, and see the relevance and point, yet, it is always the extremes which result in the greater loses. Hence, OUR CONSTITUTION AND BILL OF RIGHTS, which are as maleable as the clay in my hand, hopefully can adhere to the evolution and not self-destruct in a REVOLUTION. To what extent and at what price do we dare to destroy in order to rebuild?
Jefferson perhaps may have agreed with you, whereas Adams not. In any case, reflect on what happened in Cuba. It is easy to destroy and criticize, but it is much harder to re-build and create. Yet, I am preaching to the choir, as an artist you understand the effort it takes to construct. So before you condemn, realize the options which are left to us at present time, and truly reflect on the liberties which have been bestowed upon you, and the self sacrifice in order to maintain them for all.

Mano poderosa, Yesterday I was reading Roosevelts 1941 Speech of the Four Freedoms

The first is freedom of speech and expression -- everywhere in the world.

The second is freedom of every person to worship God in his own way -- everywhere in the world.

The third is freedom from want -- which, translated into world terms, means economic understandings which will secure to every nation a healthy peacetime life for its inhabitants -- everywhere in the world.

The fourth is freedom from fear -- which, translated into world terms, means a world-wide reduction of armaments to such a point and in such a thorough fashion that no nation will be in a position to commit an act of physical aggression against any neighbor-- anywhere in the world.

The fourth seems impossible and the second it seems could add to the impossibility of the fourth. What is the number of wars that have been fought for religion?
However we are safe since it has been made clear that as individuals in this country we have the right to own guns
The Four Freedoms speech was such a big deal in the 40's when we were fighting the war to end all wars. How soon we forget such noble ideals.

If you have a chance, look at Norman Rockwell's portrayal of the 4 freedoms. A great artist Rockwell was, yet he always was steadfast in noting that he was an illustrator, not a great painter, nor artist!
By the way, I theorize that the war to end all wars will be the final one. Which will leave no one to enjoy the fruits or glory of victory.
