Dreams, nightmares, and hidden hate. While it seems we have advanced in our society, in reality, some continue to hold on to racist ways. In 1999, while in Orlando Fla., I was confronted by the members of the KKK (Ku Klux Klan) which were protesting the Cuban and Hispanic presence in their "pure and historical city" and the "cultural intrusion on sacred Confederate ground". In Coral Gables, Fla., I have encountered the hidden racism guised as political and bureaucratic procedures. In truth hatred and racism is still alive and well in the US and the world, yet is at times silently crawling in the subconscious or sinister silence of those that still harbor such believes. Hopefully, present and future generations while evolve to destroy the beast of hate and prejudice. Change has occurred since the cowardly assination of Dr. King (not MLK, but Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.), yet we all have to continue battling the beast within, which at times does not use color of skin to feast on, but the nationality and origin of others. Let us all today introspect in order to respect ourselves and others, regardless of ethnicity, religion, color of skin, gender, sexual orientation, language or heritage. Today is not just a day off for some, it's a reminder of the work that still has to be done to achieve the dream.
