Many hope that diplomatic relations may prove the US the new Cleisthenes to C(K)astros “tyrannos.” That’s the typical American “city on a hill,” vision of self. It is consistent with the notion that American capitalism is a panacea. It has permeated the uncritical Left. Everyone thinks that free trade and investment will solve everything: yes, inequality.
